Logo Design, Web Design, Design a Brand

In the world of advertising, especially when concerning branding, logo design has become one of the most important areas of graphic design. In fact, without a powerful, clearly identifiable logo design, a company’s branding would lose its effectiveness and their advertising would struggle to promote their products and services.

To add more forcefulness to their advertising and establish a public identity, companies create a brand for themselves. This brand is the image they present of themselves to the public in order to foster trust, goodwill, and admiration. It creates expectations of how the company should act and what its products and services will deliver. At the center of this branding is a strong symbol. This symbol should be able to stand in for the company’s name. It should also immediately identify the company itself to the public and the type of products and services it offers.

This symbol is the company’s logo. A logo is an ideogram, symbol, emblem, sign, or other graphical element. Along with its logotype (its uniquely arranged typeface), it forms a trademark. This trademark is the company’s defining indicator, its distinctive signature, and the focal point of its brand. Given that a company’s very economic identity might depend on this design, its shapes, colors, fonts, and images will sharply differ from other logos in a similar market.

Without effective logo design, a company’s identity might suffer, which leads to decreased profits and lesser visibility in the marketplace and amongst the public.

Examples of effective logo design are the Red Cross for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, an international humanitarian movement. The Coca-Cola logo might be the best logo design ever conceived. It may even be considered iconic. It is recognized all across the world despite language and cultural barriers because its ribbon wave is so well established after decades of promotion and exposure.

Not all logos and brands have the benefit of decades of promotion and exposure. Still, logo design that is globally recognized must be considered exceptional; especially considering that logo design can be the most difficult component of graphic design.

Given that a logo will embody a company’s identity and standards, the final logo design must be as close to perfection as possible. Also, since logo designs are meant to achieve instant recognition, frequently redesigning logos will only confuse the public and market. People will not immediately recognize a company’s logo if it has been constantly changed. Therefore, the final logo design must be one the company is pleased with enough to keep for a lengthy span of time. This is especially true when you are dealing with logo for web development.

Logo designers should have at least a working knowledge of design and trademark laws. When designing a logo, they not do want to be infringing onto the trademark of another company’s logo and encountering the complicated legal matters that arise as a result.

Additionally, while color is important to brand recognition, logo designers should be aware that choosing the wrong color can conflict with a logo’s functionality. Certain colors are associated with certain emotions. For example, loud colors such as red and orange attract attention. Black generally indicates moodiness or depression. Logo designers need to carefully consider which colors they use to convey their ideas.
